Overview of Evens | Evens Products | Availability | Trustworthiness | The Verdict

Evens is a telehealth provider that focuses solely on treating gastrointestinal (GI) issues, like acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and heartburn.

They offer a variety of treatment options, including prescription medication, over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, and nutritional supplements.

This company adheres to the standard, ever-popular telehealth model. To sign up for their services, you must complete a short survey about your symptoms, medical history, and basic information.

Then, Evens recommends a personalized treatment plan based on your answers. If you decide to place an order, they deliver your medication straight to your door.

Evens operates on a subscription model, which means you can enjoy the luxury of receiving your meds each month with no hassle.

Moreover, they allow you to adjust your treatment and subscription plan if your symptoms change at any time.

In this review, we’re going to examine every aspect of Evens, from their products to their customer service to their pricing. Our aim is to help you decide if trying Evens is worth your valuable time and money.

A General Overview of Evens

Before we delve into specific areas of interest, we’d like to provide a quick summary of Evens at a glance. Like any other telehealth provider, Evens has both pros and cons to offer.

So, here are a few of our favorite things about Evens:

  • Ordering from Evens saves time. You never have to visit the doctor or pick up medication from the pharmacy.
  • All of their medications are FDA-approved.
  • All Evens doctors are licensed and background-checked.
  • Their products are very affordable, particularly their prescription-strength medications.
  • They offer 24/7 messaging access to their team of doctors.

On the contrary, these are some of the downsides of this company:

  • They don’t accept payment from flexible savings accounts (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA).
  • Evens only ships prescription meds to certain states, and they do not currently ship internationally.
  • They do not provide H2 blockers, such as cimetidine (Tagamet) or famotidine (Pepcid).

It’s very clear that Evens has a lot to offer for anyone who struggles with GI problems. Now, let’s explore each of these pros and cons in more detail to help you decide if Evens is as good as it sounds.

Product Selection

Let’s begin by discussing the products available through Evens. They offer a decent selection of treatment options, including several prescription-strength medications.

These include pantoprazole (generic Protonix), omeprazole (generic Prilosec), esomeprazole (generic Nexium), all of which reduce acid reflux symptoms.

In addition to these medications, Evens has a variety of options for other GI-related issues. For example, they offer Evens-brand antacid (generic Tums) and supplements of magnesium, fiber, and probiotics.

This diverse selection allows the Evens care team to put together highly effective treatment plans.

We certainly believe their product selection is satisfactory. However, some customers may find that the lack of H2 blockers is a downside to Evens.

These H2 blockers treat stomach acid and acid reflux, and they are quite similar to the prescription meds that Evens does offer (called proton pump inhibitors, or PPIs).

In general, PPIs are stronger and work faster than H2 blockers. However, H2 blockers are often prescribed to people who are at-risk of getting ulcers or currently have an ulcer.

So, Evens may not be suited to people who fall into that category.

Pricing

For many people, one of the major draws of telehealth services is their relatively low pricing. So, we have to ask—is Evens really a good deal?

Here’s our consensus: yes! For the most part, Evens’ treatment options are very affordable.

In particular, you will likely pay less for prescription medications from Evens than you would for those same meds from a traditional healthcare provider.

For example, the average cash price for 30 capsules of omeprazole (40mg) is $64.59. From Evens, that same dosage only costs $21 per month.

The one negative aspect of Evens’ pricing and payment options is the fact that they do not accept FSAs or HSAs.

These types of bank accounts allow people to set aside money for all sorts of health expenses, and they provide tax benefits, too. Sadly, if you’re looking to use an FSA or HSA, you may need to look elsewhere.

We do have some good news, though—Evens is planning to add this feature in the near future. Hopefully, in a few months, we can cross this downside off the cons list.

Shipping

We can’t discuss affordability without mentioning shipping. Sure, Evens has lower prices than most in-person providers, but how does the cost of shipping factor into the equation?

As of now, shipping costs only $3 per order. So, you’ll want to add another $3 to the overall cost of your medications to understand the full picture of savings.

Even with that added $3, Evens treatments still remain cheaper than many other options.

Regarding shipping time, Evens sends out their packages within a pretty standard time frame. Orders usually ship within one to three days, and they arrive within five to seven days.

So, in total, you’ll wait anywhere from five to ten days for your package to show up.

Admittedly, the lack of two-day shipping is a bit disappointing. However, just remember that if you subscribe to Evens’ services, your shipments will arrive on a regular basis each month.

You won’t even have to think about ordering your package and waiting all those days for it to arrive—it’ll just show up at your door one day.

Geographic Availability

Getting your GI meds shipped straight to your door can be a game-changer. Unfortunately, Evens doesn’t ship to every state. Moreover, they do not ship internationally at all.

Currently, Evens will send their over-the-counter treatments to all 50 states. However, they can only provide prescription treatments in certain states where telemedicine is allowed.

Of course, this isn’t the fault of the company, so we can’t be too mad. Also, if prescription meds aren’t available in your state, you can always opt for an OTC option.

Website Experience

Now, it’s time to talk about one of the most prevalent aspects of any telehealth business—the website. In an industry that relies on virtual consultations and online ordering, the user experience of a company’s website can make or break them.

In our experience, Evens’ website is great. It only really has a few minor flaws.

The homepage of the Evens site is simple, modern, and well-designed visually. They display most of their basic information right off the bat.

For example, using a basic graphic chart, they describe the consultation and ordering process in three simple steps.

Likewise, there’s a collection of all of their treatment options (with images and prices) at the bottom of the page.

We absolutely love how the website lays out all of this information in a straightforward, easily-digestible format.

Moving beyond the homepage, the rest of the website content has a similar feel. There’s a section called “Shop Treatments,” that describes all of the various treatment choices in a very clear-cut manner, which we greatly appreciate.

The second major section focuses on blog posts about GI conditions, GI treatments, and what it’s like to live with GI. This part of the website provides plenty of fascinating content for anyone who is considering using Evens.

Apart from these pages, there isn’t much else to the site itself. On the one hand, this makes the site very user-friendly for all types of people.

It’s quite simple to navigate, and the “Take the Quiz” button is always available in the upper-right corner for whoever decides to sign up.

And yet, the simplicity of this site is not without its downsides. Our one complaint about the website experience is that certain pieces of information are very difficult to find.

Namely, the price of shipping is not listed anywhere on the main site (not as far as we can tell, at least). The same goes for the length of time it takes for shipping to be completed.

To uncover these details, we had to visit the FAQ page, which is only linked at the very bottom of the site.

Although this website structure poses a slight inconvenience, it’s not a huge deal at the end of the day. Plus, once you actually make it to the FAQ page, you’ll find that it’s packed full of useful information.

There’s even a search bar to help you find answers instantly.

Customer Service

Customer service is another aspect of any telehealth company that is absolutely vital to the overall experience.

When you sign up for a service like Evens, you are actively putting your health in someone else’s hands. So, great customer service is a huge plus.

In our experience, Evens offers first-rate service to its customers. Whether you have an issue with an order, a question about your treatment plan, or an inquiry about billing, there will be an Evens customer service rep there to help.

Along these same lines, when you sign up for Evens, you are granted access to messaging with your care team, 24/7.

This service goes above and beyond what you would typically receive from a traditional healthcare provider. Even among other telehealth companies, this is a unique feature.

Don’t just take it from us, though. Here’s what a few reviewers had to say:

“Evens Customer Service was a great help to me when I decided to switch from an OTC medication to a prescription-based plan. I filled out a short questionnaire about my symptoms and heard back from a doctor right away. Been taking Evens for about 6 months now and really notice a difference!”

— Pat, Facebook

“Love the service and have never felt better! Highly recommend!”

— Johnny, Facebook

Clearly, others feel exactly how we feel about Evens’ excellent customer service.

Consultation Model

In our experience, the process of completing a consultation and receiving medication runs very smoothly. The survey itself only takes a few minutes to complete, and it results in a personalized recommendation for a treatment plan. It’s so simple!

We should note that if you decide to order prescription-strength meds, you will need to schedule an actual consultation with a doctor.

The website is unclear about whether this consultation takes place over the phone or via video chat. However, they do state that the initial consultation costs $10, and it is non-refundable.

Having to pay this extra cost is certainly another downside of Evens. However, in the long-run, this small, one-time fee won’t make much of a difference.

Trustworthiness

Finally, we should talk about trustworthiness. If you’ve never tried telemedicine before, it can be intimidating. Getting a prescription online may seem strange.

So, you might be wondering… is Evens legit?

At this point, you can probably tell that we completely trust the Evens team, and we have every reason to do so.

Firstly, they provide FDA-approved medications and clinically-researched supplements. There’s nothing shady about the actual products.

Similarly, all Evens doctors are licensed in the states in which they work. Plus, they have all received full background checks.

Better yet, you can contact your doctor over the phone or through Evens’ instant-messaging at any time, so you know they are truly here to help.

Our Conclusion About Evens

Let’s circle back to our initial question: is Evens worth a shot? Should you invest your valuable time and money into this service?

Hopefully, this article has given you the information you need to answer these questions on your own.

And in case you were wondering, our personal answer is yes!

If you suffer from GI issues and you’re searching for a convenient, affordable solution, Evens may just be an ideal fit for you.

Of course, this company isn’t perfect—but no one is, right? Now that would be suspicious.

However, despite their flaws, we think Evens is totally worth a try.
